Service Information
In 1986 Jerry and Denise Broomfield opened the New Life Thrift Store, a 501 (c) (3) Non-Profit ministry dedicated to the relief of poverty and distress. It quickly became evident that one of the greatest needs for the families was simply food to supplement their food budget. Denise began to purchase and distribute food whenever possible. When a local mill was on strike the thrift store provided food to the workers on the strike line. The need was ever increasing and became more than the thrift store could manage on its own. A small food pantry located at Wayside Church was moved into the thrift store. In 2001 the food ministry was organized and set apart as a separate 501 (C) (3) organization named Siskiyou Food Assistance. The two ministries have remained together assisting families in a wide service area. The New Life Thrift is able to provide clothing and cookware to families while Siskiyou Food Assistance provides food boxes. Siskiyou Food Assistance is funded by freewill donations from individuals, churches, businesses, fundraising events, and grants. We have a volunteer Board of Directors who work tirelessly to find ways to meet the ever increasing need. Siskiyou Food Assistance hours of service are:Monday - Thursday2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Our mission is to distribute food to those in need and secondly to increase public awareness of the epidemic of food insecurity in our community. Our program distributes nutritionally sound food boxes to needy families located in Weed, Edgewood, Lake Shastina, Gazelle, Big Springs, and Mount Shasta.Last year we distributed over 3,000 food boxes. We continue to see more families needing food assistance and we are gaining new clients monthly.

RUN FOR FOOD ! We are so grateful to everyone who came together to make our first event such a success! First of all we were blessed with a beautiful, georgeous morning with blue sky and no wind! 170 runners/walkers registered to participate in the event. Many sincere thanks to our sponsors for their support and in-kind gifts which made the event so very special. Pictures will be added to the event gallery very soon. A VERY SPECIAL THANKYOU TO RUN FOR FOOD - NATIONAL - SONJA AND MICHAEL - FOR ALL YOU DID TO MAKE OUR EVENT SUCCESSFUL!

Siskiyou Food Assistance has had numerous fundraising events in its history.

The fashion Show for Food highlighted silly costumes donated by New Life Thrift Store and was a great success.

One of our favorite fund raising events is the Flamingo Fly-in. Customers pay to have a delightful flock of gorgeous pink flamingos delivered to family and friends (or enemies) to brighten up their day. Flamingos are delivered in the late night hours in secret giving a wonderful surprise in the morning. Flamingos are great for holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, and for just an "I'm thinking of you" gift. Call to set up a delivery.

The Thanksgiving food box distribution is an annual event providing holiday boxes to approximately 400 families annually. For more information or to see if you qualify call 530-938=2699

Siskiyou Food Assistance is always in need of volunteers whether it be for a special event, daily distributions , food prep, or upkeep of the pantry.

Contact the food bank for more information.

Siskiyou Food Assistance has needs of some basic food stuffs at all times. The items of greatest need are peanut butter and jelly, cereal, vegetables, rice, pasta, tomato products, soups and chile, frozen meats, and staples such as sugar, flour, and beans.

Cash donations are a very real and helpful way to assist us. Donations can be made here securely through PayPal. You may use any major credit card.

All donations are tax-deductible.

One of the greatest way to help the food bank is to organize a food drive. Food drives can be small or large. They can be at your church, your place of employment or city-wide.

We can help you organize a drive and give you tips on holding a successful event.

The New Life Thrift Store offers a wide variety of gently used items for sale. Our stock ranges from clothing for the whole family, toys, baby furniture, household and kitchen items and appliances, and furniture. How about "guy stuff" like golf clubs and tools,? We also have glassware and collectibles, and knic-knacks. During the holidays we have costumes for Halloween, Christmas Decorations, Easter Bunnies and decorations, and flags for the 4th of July. You never know what you will find here. We have a need for electronics such as stereo equipment, speakers, and DVD players, etc.Our main mission is for the relief of poverty and distress. We provide a location for Siskiyou Food Assistance and help them in many ways. We also help the needy with clothing and household wares and often assist victims of tragedies such as fires.

Regarding Donations
New Life Thrift Store accepts donations on a daily basis. We accept gently used and CLEAN clothing, Furniture and bedding that is clean and in good repair. Electronics in good working condition. Kitchen wares and household items that are in good and clean condition. We are not able to accept items such as matresses, computers that are older than 3 years, or big pieces of metal that need to go to the dump....:) tires, or broken items. Items donated must be in good repair please. We also accept cash donations which help to pay overhead costs such as the power bill , insurance or dump fees.
